"Doing Business in Argentina and Brazil: What has Changed and What has Not!"
Presented by Dykema Gossett PLLC

The auto industries in both Brazil and Argentina are again thriving.  More OEMs are entering these markets both to meet local demand and with an eye toward exports.  Suppliers are being asked to develop or increase production capabilities to meet growing vehicle production volumes.  Trade pacts involving both countries and others in the region now permit and even encourage rationalization of production among the member countries.  The program will focus on developments in the legal and business environments in the two countries and their effect on foreign investment in the automotive sector in each country.  Topics to be discussed in this one hour Webinar will include:

  • Does the history of automotive trade under the Mercosur regional trade agreement among Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay demonstrate that the automotive industry of the two major automotive producers in South America is truly integrated and does the entry of new members into Mercosur signify the dawn of Latin American automotive integration?
  • What differentiates this business cycle from past cycles?
  • Is foreign investment protected, can profits be remitted, how difficult is it to establish an operation business in each country and to close one?
  • What incentives are available for new investment in the automotive sector?
  • What are the local content requirements and other major government policies and controls for the automotive industry?
  • An overview of some important legal and operating issues, recent developments and ways foreign companies are dealing with issues concerning:
    • Taxes
    • Labor
    • Security
    • Corruption
    • Environmental regulations
    • IP protection
    • Contract enforcement,
    • Compliance
    • Governance
    • Legal system
